What good is a personal alarm?

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

It is sad but many people do not see the benefits to carrying a personal alarm, especially for a woman, child or senior citizen. I can personally think of quite a few instances where an inexpensive personal alarm could easily be used to save your life.

Say for example you are walking to your car in the back of a parking lot at night and some man jumps out and grabs you from behind covering your mouth. Even if there are people in the parking lot that could come to your aid, how would you get their attention if your mouth is covered?

If you had a personal alarm on your key chain you could set it off and then you can bet that anyone with your immediate area would be alerted to your plight. Mouth covered or not a 100+ decibel personal alarm will get you the attention you need if not scare off the attacker altogether.

The last thing that most of the violent criminals out there want during an attack on a victim is attention being drawn to the activity.

This goes for children as well. It is hard to find a responsible self defense weapon that we can give to our children, even the younger ones. But this is where the personal alarm is just the right tool for the job.

Since it isn’t an offensive weapon it can be given to much younger children to use in case some creep tries to grab them. Once again the hope being someone will hear and help or the scumbag will just run away.

Another perfect example would be when a woman finds herself being followed by someone. She can run off screaming fire while initiating her personal alarm to help ensure maximum attention being drawn to her.

As I am sure you can see the goal in each example is to take what could be a stealth crime which is what the criminal wants and make it as loud as possible and hopefully change the outcome as a result.

This is also useful for senior citizens. It is not always easy to signal for assistance when you need it even in public. With a personal alarm a senior citizen can up their odds of getting assistance when they need it be it for medical or security reasons.

Personal alarms come in various forms and features such as having built in lights and safety straps. You should be sure to think about what you will want to carry and use as a personal alarm so you find the best one for you.

Using a Rearview Mirror Hidden Camera Can Prevent a Car Crash

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

No matter what kind of vehicle you drive, there are still blind spots that prevent you from seeing what you need to see in order to prevent a car crash. Many car crashes could have been prevented over the years if only today’s technology had been available. Now that it is available in the form of a rearview mirror hidden camera, you can feel more secure when driving. The use of a hidden camera attached to your rearview mirror will give you better vision for what is coming up around you and aid in preventing an accident.

Since even today’s newer cars have blind spots, the option to add camera surveillance in the form of a hidden camera aids in better vehicle security and safety. It is a safety precaution we all need in today’s world. Now that you know how a rearview mirror hidden camera can benefit you in preventing an accident, we will cover how it works and the product features.

This particular hidden camera attaches to your rearview mirror and has front and rear color cameras along with built in DVR functions as well as audio.

The following is an overview of the features available on the rearview mirror hidden camera.
• Built-in Color Camera – Featuring digital technology that is compatible with an SD card (8 MB card included but accepts up to 16 MB card) all contained in this small 1/4 inch color camera.

• Rotation and Recording – This tiny color camera rotates 330 degrees and allows for recording via built-in DVR. The rotation includes interior and exterior views so you can see inside and outside of your car with no blind spots.

• External Wireless Camera – Included with this is a wireless camera that can be mounted in the rear dash or to an area on the outside of your vehicle.

• Easy to Read LCD Monitor – The monitor is a 3.6 inch LCD Thin Film Transistor style that plays or replays activity on your rearview mirror. You can switch from external to front camera options with the touch of a button.

• Battery – This also includes a convenient built-in rechargeable battery that you can charge through your cigarette lighter or a USB option for your computer. This is completely portable and easy to use.

This rearview mirror hidden camera is truly the most revolutionary way to provide yourself with more effective vehicle safety and peace of mind. You can get more information on this amazing piece of vehicle safety equipment and even see videos of it in action online.

Call me a sexist but I never have been a fan of the “manny”

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Maybe it is the fact that most sexual predators are men or that I just could never see myself doing it but the whole manny thing is a bit creepy to me.

It is different if you plan on being there the whole time and he is there more for support than to be alone for long periods of time with your children. But other than that, you may want to re-think that idea.

Take for example 23 year old Donald Shepherd, who was just arrested for molesting a 10 year old boy he was babysitting. The police believe there may be more victims because he sought jobs all over the US that would put him alone with kids.

This is one sick little puppy you can see him here and read the entire story here

Whether it is a man or a woman, be sure you know WHO is alone with your children. A little diligence on your part can save your child from a lifetime of scars.

Don’t forget nanny cams, they can be a life saver.

Stay safe and keep your eyes open!

Parents kill their 4yr old child

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

It really saddens me to hear of the death of a child but when it happens at the hands of the parent’s, it really makes me ill.

I’m talking about Michael and Carolyn Riley, who are accused of od’in their little 4 year old little girl to death.

The worst of it all is that it appears to have been premeditated. They drugged all of their kids to get social security checks and also to keep them quiet.

Sadly for little Rebecca, the last dosing was the last for her for good.

You can read all of the details here http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2009/02/1stdegree_murde.html

People, and I use that term loosely, like these two make me wish very bad things upon them.

I try to take the high road but after these two are found guilty and put in general population, I hope they suffer every day as much as their fellow scumbag inmates can dish out.

To let that little girl suffer after she begged for help they deserve the worst that prison life can offer!

8 year old boy shoots himself with an Uzi

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

I don’t know about you but I have never been anti gun. I do believe in the right to bear arms but I also believe we need restrictions in place to at least attempt to keep the guns out of the hands of nuts. What’s got me on this subject?

A news story about a shooting at a Mass. gun show this past weekend. The victim and the shooter were a 8 year old little boy who died that day.

This was one of those shows where people come from all over to shoot and buy all types of guns including automatic weapons. You know, ones that spray tons of bullets in a matter of seconds with one press of the trigger.

Charles Bizilj, director of emergency medicine at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford, Conn. attended the Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo at the Westfield Sportsman’s Club with his 2 sons this weekend.

While they were there Mr. Bizilj thought it would be a good idea to let his 8 year old son shoot an Uzi 9mm sub machine gun. He said he did it cause “it was small and had no recoil”.

What he didn’t realize, was that the Uzi may not have a kick for an adult but it can for a child or especially, the unsuspecting. When fired this gun releases quick a bit of energy really fast. If you aren’t ready it can catch your off guard and bad things can happen.

In this case the kid had the gun and while the father turned to get his camera the child fired. The gun kicked up and still firing bullets, hit the child in the head killing him. I would imagine it all happened so fast that the boy never even knew what happened.

What really chaps my hide here is not only the father allowing the child to hold the gun while he grabbed a camera but also the fact that there was a supposedly licensed instructor right there with the kid.

I say supposedly cause they are still investigating and I haven’t seen what they found yet. Either way licensed or not, it doesn’t seem like they did their job correctly or this 8 year old child would still be alive.

People think these things are toys. Things to line up for like an amusement ride. But these things are nothing but tools of war and meant to dump a bunch of bullets at your enemy in split seconds. When I say a lot I mean 600-1700 bullets (rounds) per minute. Think about that. Thank God the clips only hold 32 rounds, usually, though there are modified clips around.

These things can do mass damage which is all they were designed for. No automatic weapons should be open to the civilian population, period, screw the I have the right to bear arms crap when it comes to this.

There is no reason for anyone who isn’t planning to kill MANY people to own an automatic weapon. Throwing 32 rounds at any animal in a matter of a few seconds is not hunting nor sport so there goes that excuse. For self defense, if you can’t hit your target with a single bullet you need to spend more time at the pistol range or invest in some non lethal self defense weapons.

This poor boy’s father should have his head examined for ever even considering letting his 8 year old fire an Uzi let alone actually doing it. I also can’t imagaine all of the people standing around watching this tiny child get in place to fire this weapon of war and this included the idiot instructor that was there.

This kid needed someone to be the adult and have common sense but that didn’t occur and he payed the ultimate price for it. Sad. Maybe we will wise up one day, but I doubt it.

Child identity theft

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

What I wanted to talk about was an attack that could occur against your kids at any age, one you may not find out about for many years. Child identity theft. Yup, even the kids.

This is a problem that has been growing because it is much easier to get away with for many years, until your child gets close to 18 and tries to establish some type of credit. So it could go on from infant hood to young adult.

I am talking about this whole identity theft crap. Whether it is against kids or adults it is all a result of one thing, that dang social security number.

They make us use it for everything and sadly people are far to loose with our confidential information. Colleges and schools have been hacked and since they require social info that then all becomes compromised. For the longest time here in Texas, UT, had people using their social security as their login id’s. They got hacked and numbers were compromised.

This same thing happens in private and public schools and colleges all over the US. NOT to mention the government and military who are far to lax on their security when it comes to our identity.

There was a case recently where a recruiting office in a mall, had papers they left out in the open near windows that could be looked into from the mall, that had newley signed soldiers personal info including their soc’s and more than enough info to steal their identity. A local news reporter did a story on it.

All this trouble and pain, billions and billions of dollars, all for a friggin number they came up with as a way to facilitate social security a longtime ago.

It is time to say enough is enough. Why should we have to worry about this or pay for someone to try and protect us from this? Adding a pin or eliminating the use of it for anything but social security reasons would be nice. Just think about it, this is a fixable problem so why shouldn’t those who created it fix it?

If not for yourself get mad for your kids. As a crook I could get your babies social security numbers and assume their identities. Basically insuring that your child will start their adult years with a HUGE hassle. I could commit crimes tied to their social security numbers, open lines or credit and so on. All on your little ones’ dime, well at least their credit and their good names. How does that sit in your crawl?

If you are saying “but what about the age difference”? What about it? Do you really think they can check that before they arrest them under your kids name and soc? Do you think banks can check that the age matches the soc? Do you think car lots or online loan sites check that? The answer is hell no! They can’t!

As usual with this issue there is no easy way to protect your child from identity theft but there are some things you can do. You can police the credit agencies (transunion, experian and equifax) yourself. Remember no child or let’s say minor, should have a credit report.

Your credit report starts the day you have your first discovery (someone checks your credit) which should be the first time you apply for some type of loan. So there should be nothing when you run the check on them with all 3 of the agencies.

Don’t pay someone to do it for you, there are many companies who will fleece you for something you could do in just minutes. Remember there should be no report!

This has become enough of a problem that at least experian flags any credit reports that belong to minors, so if someone tries to pass it thru them it should get noticed but the rest have not followed suit yet. This should be law, plain and simple! Since NO child can open a bank account or get a loan or anything else that requires a legal signature there should be no reason to be able to even try and open up credit in their names. It’s that easy.

For minors that become emancipated, they can simply get the court to issue an order to the agencies to unlock their credit status. That covers all bases. No one could ever steal the identity that way. It should be a non issue for kids.

But until things change here are things you can do to try and protect your children (this advice works for you as well):

1. Guard their info like you would you own. Don’t just give it out to anyone that asks.
2. If you open a college fund or bank account for your child, be sure that the bank rep removes then from all affiliate lists and marketing. You don’t want them getting their names and soc’s and running credit reports on them. They do it as dumb as it sounds.
3. If your kid starts getting pre approved credit offers (told you they do it), bills or bank statements other than what you know about, contact:
•TransUnion: Go to its Web site, which gives you information on its Fraud Victim Assistance Department.

•Experian: Go to its Web site, or call toll-free 1-800-311 4769 and select the option for fraud victims.

•Equifax: Write to Equifax Minor Child Department, P.O. Box 105139, Atlanta, Georgia 30348
4. Teach your child not to give out personal information over the phone or Internet or in person (other than to police).
5. Don’t carry your or your child’s Social Security number in your wallet.

Once again for us, stop making us use it so much or find a way to secure it!

If you agree, write your legislators, if enough do it they will listen, they have to. If you don’t agree do it anyway! ;)

Remember to be nice, just state your point the best you can as nice as you can. Don’t want you winding up on some watch list right next to my name hahhahaha I leanred it is best to sleep on it before you write them it turns out nicer that way ;)

Mother supplies alcohol to party of children

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

When I see stories of crack or meth addicted mothers and/or fathers getting in trouble for the kids testing positive for drugs, it sickens me, but doesn’t surprise me. It happens far too often these days. Sad part is one day they can even get those kids back.

But what does really shock me is what seem to be normal, sensible people doing things just as harmful and stupid.

Tami Peel is one of these people. She is a mother and former High School softball coach who showed how stupid and lousy a parent she really is just recently.

Back in January she threw a little party “for her daughter”, who is 15. She tells all the parents there would be no boys or alcohol. Which was all lies. There were tons of kids both boys and girls ranging from as young as 8 up to 19.

There also was alcohol which Tami purchased and gave out. Twice! They ran out of alcohol and she collected money from the kids and went on a beer run.

It was said by kids that were there that she even participated in the drinking game called beer pong. This is what is killing off college kids from binge drinking.

This piece of work was also at the house at the time that an alleged gang rape of one intoxicated 15 year old girl happened. She found out the next day in school that 4-5 boys had sex with her while she was trashed.

Remember when I said the kids were as young as 8 at this party right? Cops found out from interviews of some of the young children at the party as young as eight years old are said to have witnessed sexual encounters.

This woman should be charged for each and every child that was at the party and it should all be concurrent. Stack the charges so she does some serious time!

Moronic parents out there need to know there will be a huge penalty for this stupidity. She should be made an example of!

If I was the parent of a girl who was lied to and told that no boys or alcohol would be there, I would be livid.

Things like this make me glad I am not a parent. I bet all of those parents figured this was a trustworthy person, being a former high school softball coach, someone who would protect their kids. But they were wrong!

What could make this worse? The cops screwed up and it is possible this woman will never get in trouble. Especially since one of the kids, who may or may not be one of the gang rapers. Is the son of a prominent member of the local legal community.

You can read the whole story here http://www.kolotv.com/home/headlines/33474909.html.

Be careful who’s hands you place the safety of your kids in.

12 year old killed by AK 47 while trick or treating

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

You know, I have given a lot of advice on how to keep you and your kids safe, including holidays like Halloween.

But never would I have thought to warn against what happened this Halloween to a poor 12 year old child and his brothers.

T.J. Darrisaw and his family decided to go out house to house trick or treating. Like you used to be able to do, back in the day. Yup I said it… ;)

Sadly this time, they made a deadly mistake. It doesn’t say if they knew this area or not but they must not have known who’s door they were knocking on.

The light was on and even I know this means welcome to the trick or treaters on this one day of the year. But 22 year old Quentin Patrick wasn’t planning on welcoming anyone.

He was recently released from prison for drugs and evading police. Most likely this idiot is a meth head which would explain the lack of thought process.

You see when T.J. pushed his way in front of his brothers and knocked on Patrick’s door, he thought someone was trying to break in and rob him.

So what did the scumbag do? Freaks out and grabs his Ak47, yup the jailbird has an automatic LOADED weapon, and he fires 30 rounds into the closed front door.

13 bullets hit the 12 year old and one hit his brother in the leg and the father in the arm.

All this happened in just a split second and none of the kids or the father even had a chance to react.

When they pulled off little T.J’s mask he had a bullet in his head just over the eye. He died there.

Knucklehead comes out the front door still holding the AK47 and says “oh no!” when he realized he just went ballistic on a group of little kids trick or treating.

He then tried to flee the scene with a sack of cash, which is what I guess he was so paranoid about, but the cops got him.

One knock on the wrong door ended a life a second later. How crazy is that. How f’d up in the head has this lowlife got to be to open fire on his front door like that? Halloween no less, the day people come to your door knocking sometimes even when you don’t have a light on let alone when you do.

This guy is nothing but a drain on society and has contributed nothing at all in 22 years. If they don’t put him to death they should set him free and give the dad a free pass to kill this scumbag.

Stories like this really piss me off if you can’t tell. This guy was out on parole. How the hell does he have a loaded AK47 automatic weapon and not have it found by his parole officer?

This goes back to my rant last week. These weapons have no place in civilian hands and should be restricted to military use as they were designed!

This type of situation, where too many innocents get hurt in the name of defense, that got me preaching the non lethal self defense methods.

You screw up with a gun, people die. You screw up with a pepper spray or stun gun and someone is mad but they are alive to be mad. It’s a shame.

My heart goes out to the Darrisaw family.

14 year old fights off attacker with a bat

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

A friend brought a young man to my attention and it got me to thinking about something I haven’t really covered yet.

Who was brought to my attention was a kid from Arizona, 14 year old Michael Six. Earlier this year he was home as usual while his parents were at work and a lowlife named Thomas Garza decided to break into the home.

Michael saw Garza breaking into the sliding glass door and ran to his room to get the phone. He called 911 and hid in his closet but it had no door so it offered little camouflage. While on the phone Garza broke into his bedroom and started rummaging through his things. A mix of fear, panic and anger overtook Michael and he grabbed his good ol’Louisville Slugger and began to swing away!

He said he only struck him twice and then the kid apologized to Garza who took the bat from him and threatened to kill him. Thankfully the police were arriving and their sirens caused him to just run into a neighbor’s yard where he was caught by police.

I am truly thankful, as I am sure his parents are, that Michael is alive and well today to tell his story. This is what got me thinking. Do people actually have and teach emergency plans for various types of life threatening problems?

I asked many of my breeder friends and family and the answer was a resounding NO. I find that scary.

Do you realize how close Michael may have come to death? What would this man have done to him had the police not been arriving. Not pretty.

I believe all parents should have emergency plans for fires, burglars, bad weather and serious health issues. These plans should be tailored to your child’s age and taught to your children over the years evolving as they grow. You want to remove all guesswork from the equation.

Take Michael for instance, he did great by going to his room and getting the phone. Bad part is he had no “safe spot” to go and hide and call to wait for police. A closet with no door is no help. Second when he swung the bat I said BRAVO! But then he stopped and said he was sorry. When dealing with an intruder, since there is no way to know his real intentions, your kids need to take that as a fight for their lives!

He should have went for the back of the head to disorient him, then groin kicked as hard as he could and maybe even kneecapped him so he couldn’t chase him. Michael should then have run away out of the house as fast as possible to ensure that Garza never would get an opportunity to hurt him.

So that leaves me to ask you, are you prepared? Had Michael been conditioned to handle such an event he would have known that if you see the intruder coming in the back door you bolt out the front and straight to a neighbor’s house, 911 can wait. Call 911 from safety if they can. I would have preferred that Michael never had the face to face encounter with Garza.

You should also have a plan for when surprised by an intruder, where should they hide? Is there a phone there or on the way? Are there self defense weapons that they have been shown to use, hidden there for protection? These are the types of things you need to think about, prepare for and condition your children to respond to, exactly the way you want.

As those brave Boy Scout’s proved with the Iowa tornado disaster just recently. Be prepared it really can save lives. My thoughts and prayers to all the Scout families touched by this disaster.

S.C Boy bomber – this was a close call

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Not being a parent myself, I can’t imagine how hard it was for the parent’s of Ryan Schallenberger to decide to do the right thing and turn him in to police. But I for one am glad they did.

Not only had he planned out his school attack complete with schematic of the school he had ordered the components needed to make the bombs. Had the parents not been paying attention things could have been bad.

They saw the warning signs before this but I was unable to find out what these “obstacles” were that they spoke of that stopped them from getting this kid help long ago. But they did something and I applaud them for that!

Considering he went as far as to order supplies and create a tape to be played after his death. This kid was not just crying out for help but was ready to make many others cry as well.

Sad state of affairs.

Time to start neutering!

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

A while back I wrote about some fraud alerts that had recently found. One from the FBI was about email death threats were they try and exhort money from the victims and that they might have a bunch of info but were from outside the US. The FBI suggested to just ignore it.

Now I mentioned that scam could easily move over to phone calls and it just so happens it did but with a scary twist. Earlier this month, 3 men one of whom, Olvin Velasquez, is under arrest, decided to perpetrate this crime on a local Austin family.

According to police, Olvin Velasquez and two other men (I use this term loosely) over the course of five days, repeatedly phoned an Austin woman and threatened to kill her or someone in her family if she didn’t pay tens of thousands of dollars. Now the twist I mentioned, they did these calls from a pay phone right in Austin! Reportedly they were actually following her and lived close by. Thankfully she was smart enough to report this to the police who traced it back to Velasquez who is a Honduran national here in Texas.

Police also said when the victim asked them why they were doing this to her they replied “This is how we make our living”. It has also been reported that this victim was the 7th one so they have done this 6 times before and it hasn’t been reported by anyone due to fear.

Bear this in mind, if you get an email making threats just report it but don’t reply, odds are extremely good they aren’t even in the US (they would most likely call to scare you more than email would).

BUT if you get a phone call like this, take it very serious because as this story shows, they might be right in your neighborhood. Immediately report it to the FBI so they can get things setup to trace and they will tell you what you need to do from there. This is a must, some law enforcement, either Federal or local needs to be involved so get these people off our streets.

You can go to a local new stations site to see more on this http://www.kvue.com/news/local/stories/022508kvuestalking-bkm.2b4ecbd2.html.

/rant on

Real quick I need to tell you a story that hopefully will outrage you enough to get involved in any way you can. The problem, we are not properly protecting children who cannot protect themselves.

What I am referring to is a case here in Texas (but this issue is every place) where a thing named Melody Whatley and its mate Michael Denson are accused of child endangerment. Melody has already plead guilty and has been sentenced to one year and Denson’s trail is next. Sickening!

First I’ll give you some background on this thing called Melody. It has been in trouble with child protective services previously because two of its children, one of whom died, tested positive for marijuana at their birth. The one who died did so when this thing rolled over and smothered it to death while it was sleeping next to the poor baby.

In 2005 it was in trouble for violating its probation from a felony drug possession charge so it had to serve 9 months in jail. Somehow still having possession of the 3 babies that are still alive this thing gets in trouble once again because they tested all three of the kids and they came back positive for methamphetamines (ages 1, 2 and 3).

Now if all this wasn’t bad enough this thing will likely get her kids back once again when she gets out in a year!! What in the hell do you need to do to loose custody of your kids? How many screw ups should one get? Why do we not do more for our children?

I am not a parent but I am still outraged that this could take place and have started contacting local legislators to express my disgust. ANYONE who would do drugs in front
of their children no longer deserves the privilege of raising them. Drug use is no excuse! These kids didn’t ask to be brought into this world and anyone who would put drugs before their children (like doing drugs while pregnant) needs to loose their kids and be sterilized! This thing in this story and its mate should both be neutered so they can never harm any other children.

Sad part is this story happens all over the US over and over again and has for quite some time. It is our responsibility as adults to protect those that cannot protect themselves… our little ones.

Eyes in the back of your head

Monday, September 10th, 2007

I wanted to let you know we have added an Amber Alert Ticker to our home page http://www.getselfprotection.com. In the event of a child abduction and Amber Alert you will see it change to show you all of the information regarding the alert. This is a great service and if you get a chance head over to http://codeamber.org/support.html and give them a donation to help keep this needed service going!

What got me thinking about this was I went out this weekend to do my pant shopping for the decade hahahha Yes I am a guy and shopping is like slow death for me so I only do it every 7-10 years :) When I was at the mall I saw a young mom who had 4.5 kids with her hahha Ok the .5 was her hubby who looked as happy as I was to be there and was pouting.

What caught my eye the most was her 2 youngest kids had on one of the Childgards. They are electronic child monitors and she had the panda on both of her little girls’ wrists.

I have been told that I need to update my style which for the women was probably obvious when I said it has been over 7 years since I shopped last. So I stopped in some store with a foofie name and clothes that were way to metro for me but I at least looked. About this time that same family with all the kids came in.

The wife started grabbing clothes and holding them up to her hubby who looked as embarrassed as I was to be seen there. Maybe 5 minutes had went by and the kids were already a bit rowdy before they even got into the store so it was getting worse. The woman was trying quickly to find something for her hubby to wear so neither of them was paying full attention to anything.

Honestly, not to sound bad but it reminded me why I have no kids ;) Just as I was about to make my retreat from the store I heard an alarm go off and both parents start yelling out “christie”! Maybe a second later you hear a “what” come from over by the exit.

The parents quickly gathered the kids up and scolded Christie for walking away from them. I was sitting there with the biggest smile on my face after seeing the childgard in actual action. We sell tons of those things and it is good so see people actually using them.

The first thing most parents of lost children say is “I only took my eyes off of him/her for a second”, well a second is all it takes for something bad to happen so having an extra pair of eyes can really help.

On a lighter note:

Since I don’t live near water I can safely say bring on the rain! We have got more rain here in Texas this year already than all of last year combined.

Downside to that of course is flooding and those people that no matter how many rescues you see on the news, still decide to drive their family CAR through a high water crossing.

They have had to rescue several people up in the Dallas Fort Worth area already today and I am sure there will be more. People give your rescuers a break and turn around!

For those that don’t you better get one of our 4 in 1 emergency tools so you can get out and be on the roof of your car waiting for the helicopter. ;)

Until next time, stay safe and keep your eyes open and your kids close!

It’s dog gone crazy

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

I moved to Texas over 10 years ago and when I first arrived here I lived in an apartment. One day I came home from work and as I opened my truck door to get out a dog running loose tried to attack me. Now I don’t believe in animal cruelty but to protect myself or someone else I will lay an animal out without hesitation or remorse.

This dog must have realized he picked the wrong human because I started heading right at him swinging and yelling and he kept backing away. Guess he sensed I know my place on the food chain and wasn’t the least bit afraid and in fact I was quite angry.

After running him off I turned to head back to my truck just as a young mother and her child pulled into their parking spot. When the mother got out and started to get her baby out of the car seat that same dog came back and started going after them. The poor woman was already deathly afraid of dogs and basically she froze. I saw this and ran over and kicked the dog with everything I had, it yelped loudly and took off running.

I stayed with the mother so she could get her baby out of the car and then I walked her to her apartment. A few days later the SAME DOG comes at me again until he realized it was me and took off running.

Now I’m not gonna lie, I was beyond angry at this point so I called the office and told them they had 10 minutes to get someone down here to deal with the dog or they would find it dead in the parking lot. I wasn’t kidding either! Luckily for the dog they came and found the owner to get control of the dog.

This happens all too often, this weekend at a labor day parade in Des Moines Iowa a dog bit 2 people at the parade after getting into a fight with another dog. WTH are people bringing dogs to a parade for anyway? And pitbulls to boot.

Also on labor day an 11 year old girl was walking home from a neighbors house when 4 dogs attacked her severely injuring her legs and she is listed as being in serious condition. They found the 4 dogs but have been unable to get anyone to fess up to being the dogs’ owner.

I could go on and on with terrible stories about current dog attacks on the innocent and it isn’t the dogs fault! I blame the owners of the dogs. Years ago I had a rescued pit bull who was the Houdini of the dog world and no matter what I did I couldn’t keep her in the yard. She was skiddish around kids especially, and with a bus stop a few doors down from me I had to make sure she never had the chance to attack a kid.

She didn’t like it but she got placed in her kennel inside the house until I got home. When I got home she could go outside in the yard but I stayed out there to be sure she didn’t get loose. Why? It was my dog and my responsibility! I couldn’t imagine being so ignorant as to risk the lives of little children just so save me some trouble or because the dog didn’t like being kenneled. Too bad for the dog!

We sell tons and tons of Electronic Dog chasers which emit a high frequency pitch that drives dogs nutz and makes them run away. We also sell tons of dog pepper spray and most of these people mention the fact that they can’t walk, run, jog or bike ride in their neighborhood without the threat of a loose dog attack.

Many are even dog owners themselves who have found that when they walk their dog on a leash, loose dogs try to attack their leashed pet. As a dog owner I fully support any laws that require leashes and hold the dog owner criminally responsible for their dog’s actions.

If you have a vicious dog story you want to share please send it to me at thejudge@getselfprotection.com.

For those who follow the law but find your neighbors don’t try the Electronic dog chaser found here: http://www.getselfprotection.com/dogchaser.htm

or our Muzzle dog pepper spray found here: http://www.getselfprotection.com/dogrepellent.htm

Don’t feel bad if you have to use either device on a loose vicious dog, you have the right to defend yourself and your pet!

Until next time, stay safe and keep your eyes open and dogs leashed!

The EMU nightmare

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

I caught the morning news and they were talking about the 3 fired administrators at EMU who were fired over the coverup of a young girls rape and murder. Im not gonna lie these people really chap my cheetah!

Before I go off let me refresh your memory about this. Laura Dickinson was raped and murdered in her dorm room at Eastern Michigan University Dec 2006. They found this poor girl after someone complained of the smell!

If that all isn’t bad enough EMU after being told by the coroner that foul play WAS suspected these scumbags post on their website for the students and tell her parents that NO FOUL PLAY WAS SUSPECTED!!!

Now for those of you wondering if this was just a mistake the answer is hell NO! They were more worried about losing money and didnt give a thought to the students’ safety.

To show just how blatant all of this was there were reports about this incident that were supposedly shredded by the student affairs VP Jim Vick, these guys think they are part of the Bush Administration of something.

Now the poor parents of this 22 yr old girl didn’t find out until February of this year that she had been raped and murdered and that the po po had arrested fellow EMU student Orange Taylor for the crime.

Imagine paying big money to send your child to college to have them killed and if that wasn’t bad enough to then be LIED to by that same college! I can’t even imagine the pain and anger they must feel.

The shame of it all is that colleges are straying from being a place of higher education above all and are turning into to nothing but a big business that is concerned more with making money than any thing else!

To prove my point it has even been reported that the EMU Alumni Foundation actually had the huevos to send out a letter pleading with the alumni not to look at the negatives of this situation and continue to donate money! Now how scummy is that!

Thankfully, the Clery Act requires all schools participating in federal student aid programs to report all crime in a “timely manner” or be subject to fines up to 27 grand, which is a start.

But personally, I would like to see the fine be set sooooo high that no college would ever consider covering up any crime…Period!

I also think they should give Mr. Dickinson a steel baton and put him in a room alone with Jim Vick and let him show how much he appreciates the lies told to him about his daughter’s death! Thwap!!!

Back to school time again

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

With the start of the new college semester comes a return to crime against college students. Here are some things you want to keep in mind when sending your child to or back to college.

Crime can happen at any time, this includes daylight hours. A false sense of security can lead to heart break fast.

Last week at around dinner time (daylight), an Elgin community college student was attacked in the school parking lot while walking to her car.

The scumbag walked up and never said a word. He just started punching her in the face and then he tried to drag her off by her hair to his car.

At this point she is in big trouble because if he gets her to his car, odds are good she will never be found alive again. This animal was obviously very violent and I can only imagine what he had in mind for her.

Before he can get her all the way to his car someone saw what was going on and started yelling so he let her go and took off.

Im glad to say this scumbag didn’t get to finish playing out his sick little plan on this young girl but he did get away.

This happens far too often, women need to take a different stance with strange guys. They need to view them as potential attackers first, especially when alone.

But if you just travel using the buddy system even during the day you can lower your chances of attack.

Also this girl saw the scumbag BEFORE he approached her. Being alone in a parking lot she should have turned around immediately when she saw this lowlife lurking around.

After she turned around she should have picked up the pace and if he was following her she could then scream and run. Also ALWAYS have your keys in your hand when in a parking lot alone if you choose not to use the buddy system!

The key to avoiding an attack is to never let them get close enough to put their hands on you. Trust your gut feelings, if something feels wrong, like a guy hanging out in a parking lot, then it probably is wrong.

This goes for during daylight hours!

You can’t always see trouble coming but when approached alone in a parking lot go into defensive mode. Keep him at least 6-8 feet away from you. Tell him to stay back.

He has no reason to come right up in your face unless he is up to something but dont wait until he attacks to react. If he continues to come at you after you said to stay back then…strike!

Start screaming, you should have your keys in your hand so put them between your fingers and make a fist with the keys sticking out and go for the eyes!

If you were smart enough to get a pepper spray and/or stun gun ..USE THEM! As far as I am concerned you should empty the whole can of pepper spray in his face or run the battery out on your stun gun nailing this scumbag so he never forgets the mistake he made in attacking you!

Let him know you arent going down without a fight! Sexual predators look for weak, easy targets. They dont want a fight, they want to dominate and hurt not be hurt. They are the purest form of coward out there like all men who hit women.

It is a shame that women have to worry about even the simple act of walking to their car in a parking lot but you do. Stay aware of your surroundings! The more aware and prepared you are the less appealing a target you will become.

Stay safe and keep your eyes open!
