A 2 year old child was very badly bitten by a pit bull the other day and is now in stable condition in intensive care at a children’s hospital.

The dog was owned by a relative according to the report. They tried to get the animal off the child but they had a lot of issues in doing so and the poor child had severe cuts and tears on its face and scalp, head area. Witnesses said they were kicking the dog and still wouldn’t let the child go.

The dog owner states they too have an infant and the dog has never touched their baby.

People say it’s not the breed it is the owner and the is partially true. Much of the blame falls to the owner of the dog but the breed it also an issue.

Pit bulls are unpredictable, deny it all you want but they have shown this time and time again. How many pit bulls owners say “he never did that before” after their dog attacks someone? Lots of them do.

If you get a pit bull when you have kids in the house you risk their lives, it is just that simple. The dog may never bite anyone and could be the greatest dog but statistics show the odds aren’t in your favor.

If you want to read about way to protect yourself from dog attacks your can read an entry I wrote a little while ago on How to protect yourself from an aggressive dog.

It wouldn’t have helped in this case other than when trying to get the dog to release the child but a little preparation goes a long way.

Stay safe and pray for the little child to recover both physically and emotionally!

Learning how to protect yourself from an aggressive dog could save your life one day since more people than necessary are killed by vicious dogs every year and the numbers don’t seem to be dropping. Depending on where you live there may be laws holding the owner criminally responsible for a dog attack but that does nothing for you or your family if you are maimed or killed during an attack.

Thankfully we have many different options for protecting ourselves and you just need to decide which one is the best fit for you.

• Super Dog Chaser – This item utilizes a 130 decibel ultrasonic high frequency sound and bright flashing LED lights to deter aggressive dogs from a distance of up to 40 feet. It is the most humane device on this list as the effects are immediately removed when you stop pressing the button. Even though there are no long-term side effects, it is highly effective. You generally won’t need to use this device more than once on the same dog. After the first time just the threat should be more than enough to send it heading the other way.

• Mace Muzzle Canine Repellent – This is basically dog pepper spray. It was specifically designed to work on canine animal breeds. Although the effects are not permanent it will cause great pain to the dog as their sense of smell is more keen than ours so the effects on the nose of the dog will be even worse that it is on a human nose. To counteract the effects the dog will need to have the affected areas flushed with water or the effects will fade in about 30 minutes if left untreated. Although not designed for use on humans it is quite effective and can be used to help protect you from a human attacker as well.

• Retractable Steel Baton – This item can serve a dual purpose as it will work to help protect you from both dogs and humans alike. The retractable steel baton is very effective and easy to carry on you as it comes with a holster so you can put it on your side. With a simple flip of the wrist you now have extended your reach by 16, 21 or even 26 inches depending on which length baton you decide to carry.

• Telescopic Stun Baton – This is yet another item that can be used on both dogs and humans quite effectively which can save you from having to buy two separate items. Just the loud sound of the baton extended with just the press of a button and then firing off electricity onto the air can be enough to protect you from an aggressive dog. Should the dog need more convincing just a quick touch with the Stun Baton will send quite a bit of electricity through your aggressor.

• Bear Repellent – If you are someone who likes to camp or hike in areas that may contain bears or other wildlife you may want to purchase a bear repellent pepper spray. This product is designed to work on a Grizzly and it is also quite effective on dogs and humans. This once again gives you protection from multiple types of possible attackers all in one handy device.

As you can see you have many options you can use to protect yourself so finding what fits your busy life should be much easier. No sane person wants to hurt an animal but when it comes down to them or you the choice is easy.

Stay Safe,

Well the short answer is hell no! But we sure do need to revamp the entire system in order to ensure only those truly in need utilize the services as well as keeping it from becoming overly costly to all of us.

I don’t know the actual numbers or even if our government actually knows how much we are being ripped off by crooks each year through the misuse of social services but I have seen numbers in the hundreds of millions and some even billions lost each year as per various watchdog sites.

Here in Texas, the republican state government which it really is now since they have a super majority, is doing all that it can to cut social services and right now seem to be doing all they can to make an already mediocre educational system even worse by cutting deep into the school systems causing them to dump huge numbers of teachers and increase classroom sizes. But I digress.

My point is simple. Social services are needed to keep people from suffering when they can be helped and this holds true especially for the children, the elderly and the mentally and physically disabled. We have to do this, it is what makes us human beings and not animals.

The problem is that there will always be scumbags that try to beat the system and this is where some changes could stop that from occurring as much.

Take the welfare system for example. This alone is nothing but a money sinkhole as it currently stands. There is little enforcement and tons of abuse. That system is broken but can be easily fixed.

Each state should create a “job bank”. Yes I know that this will compete with temp agencies but they can work deals to get staff from the job bank as well or something or go out of business. It would be a small price to pay to drop our tax bills by billions without screwing over our fellow human beings.

When you go on welfare you would HAVE to go to training in some field so that you can be either temp’d out to some company, used in service of the state or hired off. In my welfare system … everyone works, no free rides!

As for the training, we could work deals with various companies in each state to offer training to the job bank workers in various occupations. This benefits the companies by giving them a free look at potential employees and helps us get people working.

Also there is no having children while on welfare. You have to either agree to birth control and not having kids until you can afford them or go it on your own without welfare!

You may be saying but what if they have kids already when they go on welfare, how can they work and train? Easy state run daycare’s staffed by job bank trained employees or third party companies that hire from the job bank that offers childcare at a reasonable rate for job bank workers until they leave the bank.

Even with the daycare and training costs it would keep people from being on welfare for years if they have to work anyway they might as well go find a better paying job instead of leeching off of us and in the long run save tons of money.

Welfare should be a hand up not a hand out!

I got rambling so long here I’ll have to come back to rant about the other social services later in another part of this series which will now be at least 2 parts .

Be safe!

Training yourself to become a better fighter doesn’t necessarily mean that every weekend you are encouraged to frequent sports pubs and engage in physical altercations. In fact, becoming involved with close combat training can effectively enhance your ability to defend yourself in those unexpected situations.

I think we all understand which situations I’m speaking; the one where you’re simply minding your own business on a street corner when somebody approaches you with demeaning words and unwarranted anger – this is where learning how to defend yourself physically can come in quite handy, because it’s almost certain that this person advanced with the intention to fight.

In short, MMA or mixed martial arts is defined as a full contact combat sport, and it permits a large variety of fighting methods, including those of tradition and non-tradition. This means that grappling, as well as striking, is allowed. Most fights actually end in a grapple, followed by a submission move (i.e. arm bar). Congruently, this is why learning mixed martial arts for self defense is so beneficial. It’s true that most physical altercations, whether they are during after hours at a town bar or in the parking lot outside of a gym, almost always end up on the ground in a furious jostle for position.

But if you truly want to subdue your attacker, you must learn the various styles and techniques of handling your opponent while you’re both on the ground. A take-down is typically followed by the most common hybrid of “ground and pound,” where you have your foe on his back while sitting on top of him throwing devastating punches. But MMA ground fighting isn’t always defined by clinching mixed with knees, elbows and punches to the face. In fact, it’s what’s known as “submission grappling” that gives note to a well rounded MMA fighter.

When I say submission grappling, I mean putting your adversary in a choke-hold and/or any of the following:
•	Joint locks
•	Arm-locks
•	Leg-locks
•	Clinch holds
•	Compression locks
•	Pain compliance
•	Pinning

There are a few intricate others, including the “Grapevine”, but these are the top categories that define submission holds. These are a part of many different disciplines including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Catch Wrestling, Judo, Sambo, Shootwrestling, Pankration and more.

Let’s not forget one of the most important elements and differentiators to boxing; kickboxing/Muay Thai. Certain MMA fighters specialize in areas like kickboxing provided they’re strongest in that area. The same goes for clinching and ground and pound – fighters will determine their strong areas during practice and routine, effectively mastering their most powerful kick and/or submission move. This is evident while viewing any MMA fight. You’ll notice that some MMA fighters almost always strike at the hips, venturing into a takedown and eventually ending the fight in submission while others enjoy staying on their feet and throwing lots of punches.

Nevertheless, all of these traditional styles and disciplines mixed with a combination of modern or non-tradition styles envelope what we commonly refer to as Mixed Martial Arts today. The sport is growing in popularity. Congruently, more people are taking an interest into learning some of these self defense techniques. Not only does engaging in such activity come with the ability to defend, but it naturally enhances fitness.

If you know a young man that is either going to be or already is attending college than you need to consider his safety while he is away from home and help him to be prepared for anything life decides to throw at him. Too many people are under the misconception that the only victims are women and this is not the truth.

Besides the basic safety talk about avoiding drugs and alcohol as well as driving with idiots, you need to be sure he is thinking about his personal safety while he is out and about.

Here are just a few of the best self defense products for male college students that he can use to increase his level of safety while away at college:

•	Diversion Safe – He can use one in his car and one in his dorm room to help hide his valuables from theft. Diversion safes come in all types of everyday products that people will not give a second look. They are very inexpensive and quite effective in hiding your items in plain sight.
•	Door Brace – This can be used to secure his dorm room door without the need to permanently install anything you just extend it and brace it up against the door. Best of all the Door Brace is portable so he can take it with him as he travels to help provide safety in hotel rooms, apartments or any place he wants to make sure he can sleep without fear of attack.
•	Pepper Spray – This is a great self defense device for both men and women. Even if he never needs to defend himself he made need to defend someone else and Pepper Spray can give him the edge he needs to do so safely.
•	Expandable Baton – If you get the flashlight option he can keep it in his car to help with an emergency like a breakdown, an attempted car jacking or even a submerged vehicle. An Expandable Baton has many uses and for the price it is more than worth the money.
•	Kubotan – This little device is very inexpensive as it is usually around five dollars. It can serve many purposes and does not really require any kind of training. A Kubotan is more of a use however you need it type of item since it can defend you from attack by using it as a stabbing device or flail. It too can be used in a car emergency kit as well since it can be used to break out a window if needed.

With the items on this list you can help to ensure your son has at least a fighting chance to defend himself or someone else should the need arise whether it be in his home or his vehicle.

You know it is sad that we have let things get so out of control in our country. Under the guise of free market capitalism, unscrupulous people driven by nothing but greed have polluted our food supply in order to line their pockets with boatloads of money.

Now whether they actually even consider our health is beyond me but I do know that they seem to ignore it if they do. The only way to really limit the amount of poisons we take into our body is by growing our own food without any chemicals at all.

You see, pesticides that are on our food wind up inside of us. Recently, researchers have found: “Kids with higher-than-average levels of one pesticide marker were nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD as children who showed no traces of the poison.”

This may explain why the number of kids diagnosed with ADHD is on the rise and it wouldn’t surprise me if they found out next that this is also why we have the increase in Autism.

These poisons work by messing with the nervous system of bugs but it has similar effects on humans and they are absorbed by the plants through runoff and penetration. This means we are ingesting this stuff!

We have to stop this “it’s all about the money” mentality. If it screws up the free market then so be it. It is better than the alternative of killing us all off. It is hard to make money on dead people!

It is sad but many people do not see the benefits to carrying a personal alarm, especially for a woman, child or senior citizen. I can personally think of quite a few instances where an inexpensive personal alarm could easily be used to save your life.

Say for example you are walking to your car in the back of a parking lot at night and some man jumps out and grabs you from behind covering your mouth. Even if there are people in the parking lot that could come to your aid, how would you get their attention if your mouth is covered?

If you had a personal alarm on your key chain you could set it off and then you can bet that anyone with your immediate area would be alerted to your plight. Mouth covered or not a 100+ decibel personal alarm will get you the attention you need if not scare off the attacker altogether.

The last thing that most of the violent criminals out there want during an attack on a victim is attention being drawn to the activity.

This goes for children as well. It is hard to find a responsible self defense weapon that we can give to our children, even the younger ones. But this is where the personal alarm is just the right tool for the job.

Since it isn’t an offensive weapon it can be given to much younger children to use in case some creep tries to grab them. Once again the hope being someone will hear and help or the scumbag will just run away.

Another perfect example would be when a woman finds herself being followed by someone. She can run off screaming fire while initiating her personal alarm to help ensure maximum attention being drawn to her.

As I am sure you can see the goal in each example is to take what could be a stealth crime which is what the criminal wants and make it as loud as possible and hopefully change the outcome as a result.

This is also useful for senior citizens. It is not always easy to signal for assistance when you need it even in public. With a personal alarm a senior citizen can up their odds of getting assistance when they need it be it for medical or security reasons.

Personal alarms come in various forms and features such as having built in lights and safety straps. You should be sure to think about what you will want to carry and use as a personal alarm so you find the best one for you.

Stay safe!

No matter what kind of vehicle you drive, there are still blind spots that prevent you from seeing what you need to see in order to prevent a car crash. Many car crashes could have been prevented over the years if only today’s technology had been available. Now that it is available in the form of a rearview mirror hidden camera, you can feel more secure when driving. The use of a hidden camera attached to your rear-view mirror will give you better vision for what is coming up around you and aid in preventing an accident.

Since even today’s newer cars have blind spots, the option to add camera surveillance in the form of a hidden camera aids in better vehicle security and safety. It is a safety precaution we all need in today’s world. Now that you know how a rear-view mirror hidden camera can benefit you in preventing an accident, we will cover how it works and the product features.

This particular hidden camera attaches to your rear-view mirror and has front and rear color cameras along with built in DVR functions as well as audio.

The following is an overview of the features available on the rear-view mirror hidden camera.
•	Built-in Color Camera – Featuring digital technology that is compatible with an SD card (8 MB card included but accepts up to 16 MB card) all contained in this small 1/4 inch color camera.

•	Rotation and Recording – This tiny color camera rotates 330 degrees and allows for recording via built-in DVR. The rotation includes interior and exterior views so you can see inside and outside of your car with no blind spots.

•	External Wireless Camera – Included with this is a wireless camera that can be mounted in the rear dash or to an area on the outside of your vehicle.

•	Easy to Read LCD Monitor – The monitor is a 3.6 inch LCD Thin Film Transistor style that plays or replays activity on your rear-view mirror. You can switch from external to front camera options with the touch of a button.

•	Battery – This also includes a convenient built-in rechargeable battery that you can charge through your cigarette lighter or a USB option for your computer. This is completely portable and easy to use.

This rear-view mirror hidden camera is truly the most revolutionary way to provide yourself with more effective vehicle safety and peace of mind. You can get more information on this amazing piece of vehicle safety equipment and even see videos of it in action online.

Maybe it is the fact that most sexual predators are men or that I just could never see myself doing it but the whole manny thing is a bit creepy to me.

It is different if you plan on being there the whole time and he is there more for support than to be alone for long periods of time with your children. But other than that, you may want to re-think that idea.

Take for example 23 year old Donald Shepherd, who was just arrested for molesting a 10 year old boy he was babysitting. The police believe there may be more victims because he sought jobs all over the US that would put him alone with kids.

This is one sick little puppy you can see him here and read the entire story here

Whether it is a man or a woman, be sure you know WHO is alone with your children. A little diligence on your part can save your child from a lifetime of scars.

Don’t forget nanny cams, they can be a life saver.

Stay safe and keep your eyes open!

It really saddens me to hear of the death of a child but when it happens at the hands of the parent’s, it really makes me ill.

I’m talking about Michael and Carolyn Riley, who are accused of od’in their little 4 year old little girl to death.

The worst of it all is that it appears to have been premeditated. They drugged all of their kids to get social security checks and also to keep them quiet.

Sadly for little Rebecca, the last dosing was the last for her for good.

You can read all of the details here http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2009/02/1stdegree_murde.html

People, and I use that term loosely, like these two make me wish very bad things upon them.

I try to take the high road but after these two are found guilty and put in general population, I hope they suffer every day as much as their fellow scumbag inmates can dish out.

To let that little girl suffer after she begged for help they deserve the worst that prison life can offer!
