This story goes to show that you should always be prepared to protect yourself, day or night.
A young lady called for a cab which came to drive her the 10 minute ride to our local college. Fro the start she stated the guy was rude making comments that it was close enough that she should have drove herself. Real customer service oriented guy right? hahhaha
After she gets to the destination she fills out the slip to use her credit card to pay the fare which was about 6 bucks. On the form she writes something like “no tip, driver was rude” and hands it to him, she was smart enough to get out of the cab first.
He got mad and jumped out demanding money from her. He then grabs her and rips the jacket right off of her. Thankfully, that was the extent of the attack. Police arrested the man within minutes and now he is in big trouble.
This comes down to something simple. Never let them get close enough to put their hands on you, period. She should have screamed, run and if she had been prepared, she could have used pepper spray on him. His trip towards her would have ended quickly.
People seem to forget or ignore this rule far too much. Another perfect example from tonight. I walked to the grocery store across the street and as I was leaving I twisted my ankle and it was killing me.
I hobbled back towards home when I noticed a young lady finishing unloading her cart. Not thinking, I walked towards her and asked if I could take her cart since she was done with it.
Granted both of my hands were full and I was hobbling and I smiled and asked nicely BUT she got close enough to me to have grabbed her had I been a nut.
It was dark, only a few people in the parking lot and none were paying attention to this area. This was the perfect setup for an attack. She was lucky it was me and not some creep.
Well, she was lucky until I kind gave her a lecture about getting so close to some strange guy in a dark parking lot. hahha I know but I couldn’t help myself but I did admit to her that I should never had approached her to put her in that position.
NEVER let someone get close even in a public parking lot. I could list tons of stories of women taken from public places and raped, tortured and/or murdered by some scumbag.
What she should have done to be nice yet safe was slide the cart over to me, not hard enough to try and knock me down but enough that it keeps me at a distance. If at that point had she done that and I still kept approaching then it is time for her to fight!
You know, I have given a lot of advice on how to keep you and your kids safe, including holidays like Halloween.
But never would I have thought to warn against what happened this Halloween to a poor 12 year old child and his brothers.
T.J. Darrisaw and his family decided to go out house to house trick or treating. Like you used to be able to do, back in the day. Yup I said it…
Sadly this time, they made a deadly mistake. It doesn’t say if they knew this area or not but they must not have known who’s door they were knocking on.
The light was on and even I know this means welcome to the trick or treaters on this one day of the year. But 22 year old Quentin Patrick wasn’t planning on welcoming anyone.
He was recently released from prison for drugs and evading police. Most likely this idiot is a meth head which would explain the lack of thought process.
You see when T.J. pushed his way in front of his brothers and knocked on Patrick’s door, he thought someone was trying to break in and rob him.
So what did the scumbag do? Freaks out and grabs his Ak47, yup the jailbird has an automatic LOADED weapon, and he fires 30 rounds into the closed front door.
13 bullets hit the 12 year old and one hit his brother in the leg and the father in the arm.
All this happened in just a split second and none of the kids or the father even had a chance to react.
When they pulled off little T.J’s mask he had a bullet in his head just over the eye. He died there.
Knucklehead comes out the front door still holding the AK47 and says “oh no!” when he realized he just went ballistic on a group of little kids trick or treating.
He then tried to flee the scene with a sack of cash, which is what I guess he was so paranoid about, but the cops got him.
One knock on the wrong door ended a life a second later. How crazy is that. How f’d up in the head has this lowlife got to be to open fire on his front door like that? Halloween no less, the day people come to your door knocking sometimes even when you don’t have a light on let alone when you do.
This guy is nothing but a drain on society and has contributed nothing at all in 22 years. If they don’t put him to death they should set him free and give the dad a free pass to kill this scumbag.
Stories like this really piss me off if you can’t tell. This guy was out on parole. How the hell does he have a loaded AK47 automatic weapon and not have it found by his parole officer?
This goes back to my rant last week. These weapons have no place in civilian hands and should be restricted to military use as they were designed!
This type of situation, where too many innocents get hurt in the name of defense, that got me preaching the non lethal self defense methods.
You screw up with a gun, people die. You screw up with a pepper spray or stun gun and someone is mad but they are alive to be mad. It’s a shame.
You know researching crime can become a very depressing thing if you let it get to you. There are so many people out there that can leave you saying “HOW?”.
You may or may not have heard about the attack the other day in Philadelphia on the subway, out where I am there hasn’t been anything on the news.
As I began reading the story and the updates in the story I could only shake my head. For those that don’t know, a 20 year old lab tech was coming home from work on the subway.
He sat down and fell asleep without any incidents beforehand. Some nut walks on the subway with his CHILD and begins wailing on this kid with a hammer!
The attack went for what they say was close to 5 minutes as this guy tried to kill this 20 year old kid with a hammer. The sad part is that there was at least 10 people (other riders) and not one helped.
Now after watching the attack I can understand why some would have just run. It was incredibly brutal and started so fast. Now had even one of those people had a pepper spray or steel baton on them (stun guns are illegal) or if they had been trained in self defense or martial arts they could have stopped this.
The fact people were too scared to help doesn’t really surprise me much but what did was this. These two didn’t know each other, never spoke or even glanced at each other, the guy just went nuts and why he chose this kid is unknown for now at least. Now the guy turns out to be a known criminal who has a long record but it still doesn’t explain the motive for the attack. It is crazy.
Now to really show how people can be, during the attack the kid lost the ipod he was listening to but it turned up. One of the witnesses/fellow riders, stole it and sold it to some girl for 150 bucks.
Some people are just scum!
This brings back up my point from Monday. Just because you are in a crowd, in a public place it doesn’t mean you are safe. The only way to even attempt to be safe these days is to carry and be prepared to use, a self defense weapon and if at all possible take up a martial art. It is great for your health, family bonding and safety and well worth your time I assure you.
Philadelphia needs to rethink its concealed handgun and stun gun bans. Their crime rate is insane, I feel bad for those that life in this warzone of a city.
I was checking out the news earlier and saw a story about a single mother of 8 that was just murdered.
I believe this was most likely a wrong place at the wrong time thing. I would bet that no matter who walked out the door, they were getting killed and robbed.
The door I speak of was to a check chasing place. Stephanie Seabrum walked 2 steps out the door after cashing her check and was shot in the back of the head and dead in a split second!
Her only mistake was ever going to a check cashing place. Those places for both the patrons and the employees, are magnets for crime.
Think about it, compared to a bank, a check cashing place is guaranteed money. When someone walks out of the bank it could have been to deposit or to apply for a loan, there is no guarantee they have cash.
But with a check cashing place, as the name applies, you’re walking out with cash in hand. Another issue I have is that they are many times in unsafe settings.
With a bank, when they pick a location, they take visibility and safety into consideration. A check cashing place can be a mom and pop shop anywhere and there is little regulation.
When it comes to your safety, you have to play the odds. If you know running out in the middle of the road in front of a bus is a bad idea because odds are good you’re gonna get splatted.
Then going to a place that attracts crime and basically has you walking out wearing a banner that says “rob me” with better than normal odds of possible attack, would also be a bad idea.
Best way to stay safe is not put yourself in a bad situation. In this case not even a self defense weapon would have helped unless she had noticed the men before she exited the door.
After she stepped out she was dead in a split second. He just walked right up and shot her as soon as she came out the door. Sad.
When they catch these bastards (there was at least 2), they should send em over here to Texas; we’d be happy to stick a needle in their arms for the last time for ya!
These men are animals and should be treated as such. We are far too lenient and crime needs to become much more painful!
Sadly too many people wait until something bad happens before they react. Take for instance here in my area, a man has been groping women, so far something like 8 victims but we don’t know if that is all or exactly how long this has been going on.
He has been stalking women around the University campus here in Austin. What really surprised me was the way they found some of the 8 victims. It wasn’t by them reporting the attack it was a news report.
One of the victims, Sarah Kelly, a young UT student said she was groped while walking her dog outside of her apartment but she didn’t even report it until she saw the sketch of the attacker in her email inbox from the campus police.
She said she didn’t feel like it was enough to call police, until she saw a sketch. Not enough?? He walked up and asked for directions in broad daylight while walking her puppy and grabbed her butt. How could that not be enough?
I even saw comments on news stories about this that said things like “what’s the big deal?”. I assume people must not realize that these guys that do this and get bolder as they go will eventually cross the line to full fledged sexual assault or even worse; it is all just a matter of time.
Some of the worst animals to commit crimes were people that build as they go. They have to keep crossing lines to keep getting thrills and it usually ends with some poor child or unsuspecting woman dead.
Never let stuff like this go and tell your daughters the same thing. It isn’t normal behavior to force yourself on people like this and it shouldn’t be ignored.
Another thing, keep that safety zone around you when out alone in public even during the day. The zone should be kept free of all strangers and if you do that as much as possible you can help to eliminate the risk of some scumbag cop’in a feel on your fun parts.
I did see one student interviewed and she actually had her pepper spray out while walking. I applauded, it wasn’t one of ours but hey it was something; not that I’ll guarantee it will work Now with one of ours! hahahha
Since there are still new victims of this guy, including today with a jogger, not enough people are taking their safety seriously. Don’t be one of those people!
Stop by and see us to stock up on pepper spray and stun guns for the ones you care about.
41-year-old Benjamin Ramirez decided to rob a pizza place in Denton Texas and learned why they call the city Denton about 4 days ago.
He walked into a pizza place where 17 year old Rudy Sandoval and a young female were working. He pulled out a gun and came behind the counter slapping Rudy. He then proceeds to attack the young lady but that doesn’t last long.
Rudy must have got a huge burst of adrenalin and charged the attacked knocking him clean out. I don’t mean just groggy, homeboy slumped to the ground and stayed there for quite a while. He then got up and staggered off to his getaway vehicle but was followed by witnesses who lead police right to him. hahaha
I have watched it a bunch of times and I laugh out loud each time! Rudy definitely went primal on this guy to the point that the girl pulled him off of him. hahahah They say crime doesn’t pay but ol’Benny got a free knuckle sandwich and got a nice floor to nap on! hahahah
Now after writing this I came across more on this story and it has a twist like straight out of Star Wars. It turns out that ol’Benny was the young female worker’s father!!! The girl being attacked in the video is Stephanie Ramirez. That was why she pulled Rudy off of him, she realized it was her dad!
When interviewed Stephanie says “I said, ‘Don’t hit him again! That’s my dad!’ and then Rudy said ‘What’s he doing here?’ to which she answered “I don’t know!”.
A friend brought a young man to my attention and it got me to thinking about something I haven’t really covered yet.
Who was brought to my attention was a kid from Arizona, 14 year old Michael Six. Earlier this year he was home as usual while his parents were at work and a lowlife named Thomas Garza decided to break into the home.
Michael saw Garza breaking into the sliding glass door and ran to his room to get the phone. He called 911 and hid in his closet but it had no door so it offered little camouflage. While on the phone Garza broke into his bedroom and started rummaging through his things. A mix of fear, panic and anger overtook Michael and he grabbed his good ol’Louisville Slugger and began to swing away!
He said he only struck him twice and then the kid apologized to Garza who took the bat from him and threatened to kill him. Thankfully the police were arriving and their sirens caused him to just run into a neighbor’s yard where he was caught by police.
I am truly thankful, as I am sure his parents are, that Michael is alive and well today to tell his story. This is what got me thinking. Do people actually have and teach emergency plans for various types of life threatening problems?
I asked many of my breeder friends and family and the answer was a resounding NO. I find that scary.
Do you realize how close Michael may have come to death? What would this man have done to him had the police not been arriving. Not pretty.
I believe all parents should have emergency plans for fires, burglars, bad weather and serious health issues. These plans should be tailored to your child’s age and taught to your children over the years evolving as they grow. You want to remove all guesswork from the equation.
Take Michael for instance, he did great by going to his room and getting the phone. Bad part is he had no “safe spot” to go and hide and call to wait for police. A closet with no door is no help. Second when he swung the bat I said BRAVO! But then he stopped and said he was sorry. When dealing with an intruder, since there is no way to know his real intentions, your kids need to take that as a fight for their lives!
He should have went for the back of the head to disorient him, then groin kicked as hard as he could and maybe even kneecapped him so he couldn’t chase him. Michael should then have run away out of the house as fast as possible to ensure that Garza never would get an opportunity to hurt him.
So that leaves me to ask you, are you prepared? Had Michael been conditioned to handle such an event he would have known that if you see the intruder coming in the back door you bolt out the front and straight to a neighbor’s house, 911 can wait. Call 911 from safety if they can. I would have preferred that Michael never had the face to face encounter with Garza.
You should also have a plan for when surprised by an intruder, where should they hide? Is there a phone there or on the way? Are there self defense weapons that they have been shown to use, hidden there for protection? These are the types of things you need to think about, prepare for and condition your children to respond to, exactly the way you want.
As those brave Boy Scout’s proved with the Iowa tornado disaster just recently. Be prepared it really can save lives. My thoughts and prayers to all the Scout families touched by this disaster.

Last week there was an attack on a woman on a busy street in a neighborhood at 9am on a weekday. What makes this really bad is how it went down.
The 20 year old young lady was not out after dark alone, she was not in a particularly bad part of town nor was she not paying attention. It was 9am and she was doing what you would think you can do, drive down the road and go to work or school.
She was driving through an intersection to a major highway here in my area when a car with 4 scumbags in it pulled up and one of the guys waved a gun and told her to pull over. Which she did, right on a busy neighborhood street.
The guy with the gun got in her car and then beat, robbed and raped her. He stopped after she began to scream and they drove off. Police say since she walked away alive this is a win and one from viewpoint it is. But they are still free and she was still beaten and raped so I have trouble saying it was a win with any enthusiasm even though it definitely could have been worse.
The police commented when asked what to do in this situation that they couldn’t give specific advice because every situation is different. This is all true. With this type of situation it can play any number of ways.
Personally though, in this situation, I would have got acted like I was going to comply until they got behind me then I would have jumped on the highway calling 911 to alert police. In my eyes my truck is my only real armor against an armed idiot so pulling over isn’t going to be on my agenda. They key would be to not let them get along side of you again for a clean shot until cops can arrive to arrest the morons and that is if they even bother chasing you to begin with.
Like I said before, this could have been much worse, once this man got into her car with her he could have taken her anywhere he wanted and did whatever he wanted. As I have said, you cannot allow yourself to be taken to a secondary crime scene because the odds of you returning start to get bad.
Another option here being 9am and that she pulled onto a neighborhood street would have been while they were still behind you to lay on the horn and pull into the first driveway that looked like it had someone home.
I say this because even though they were brazen enough to do this when and how they did as soon as she started screaming he stopped and they left. So attention was something they did NOT want and would have been the first thing I would have given them!
Attackers want at least some level of stealth and if can draw attention to your plight it can make a world of difference. Be careful out there even in daytime hours and always carry some type of self defense weapon with you in your vehicle.
I have noticed recently in my area and many others across the US the incidents of fake police officers victimizing people has increased and sadly most of the advice about what to do when you aren’t sure could work against you if they are real.
In a seminar a few months ago an officer mentioned what I thought sounded like the absolute best way to handle an encounter with an unmarked police vehicle or plain clothed police officer.
Here in Texas we had 2 (that they know of) incidents recently where a fake police officer approached people who appeared drunk and threatened to arrest them if they didn’t pay him cash.
I have only a little sympathy for someone who gets robbed cause they are too drunk to realize no real cop would ever do what he was trying to do and if they did you still shouldn’t go along with it.
But this could also be used to sexually assault or murder someone so lets discuss this a bit. If you are in your car the best thing to do when being pulled over by an unmarked car and you aren’t sure they are real you can:
1. Put on your 4 way emergency flashers to show the officer if he really is one that you aren’t failing to comply.
2. Use your cellphone to call police and tell them where you are at and that someone in an unmarked car is trying to pull you over. They can and will tell you if he is real and contact the officer so her doesn’t come up to the car mad cause you weren’t complying fast enough. Once they realize it is just fear for your safety things should be good.
3. Still always try and stop in a well lit public place if at all possible but number 2 is most important of them all…call the police!
Now when approached by someone claiming to be an officer and hassling you simply request to call 911 and talk to police to verify him. Also ask him to show you his official ID. Any legitimate officer should have no issue with this.
Had the people here that got robbed simply said let me call the police they would not have even been robbed from what it seems since no threat of physical harm was used. He would have just ran and picked someone else.
Things like this make an already nightmare job of being a cop even worse. Don’t just drop your guard cause someone walks up and says they are a cop, check em out it is your right and duty.
I looked at the newest numbers from the National Center for Victims of Crimes and the stalking numbers are way out of hand. According to their report 1 in 12 women and 1 in 45 men will be stalked in their lifetime. Over 75% of the women and 64% of the men know their stalkers.
Now if those numbers weren’t bad enough; 81% of the women stalked by a current or past over are also physically assaulted by them during the stalking which lasts on average almost 2 years!
These numbers are alarming. Especially when you think about 1 out of 5 women were threatened or harmed by a weapon during the stalking. Odds are not in the favor of the victim even if they get a restraining order since these are OFTEN violated by the stalker.
Now don’t misunderstand, I am not saying don’t get a restraining order, you really need to be sure and get this on record. Just don’t think that just cause you filed and received a restraining order, that you are now safe from this person. That piece of paper alone just won’t do.
So here are some tips:
1. Learn what the stalking laws are for your area – go to your local police station and know the laws for your State. It also is a good time to get any literature or suggestions from the police about staying safe from a stalker that they may have.
2. File a restraining order – it alone works 20% of the time on average and it is good to get things on record.
3. Like mentioned above records, keep them- get a book and write down every time he/she harasses you. This includes emails, keep them. Maybe even get a phone recorder like this one digital audio phone or room recorder. Every time he/she calls, record it and if it is threatening turn it over to police.
4. Alert your friends and even the neighbors you are friendly with so they can help keep an eye out. (You should feel no embarrassment your not the idiot doing the stalking, you’re the victim).
5. Consider taking a martial arts course or maybe kick boxing – I say this for a few reasons. You need to try and not show fear to your stalker, it only feeds them. One of the easiest ways to be confident is to KNOW you are able to protect yourself should your stalker decide to get physical. Don’t look for trouble from them just don’t show fear even if you have to fake it.
6. Also consider getting yourself some self defense weapons that you keep with you and scattered around your house in case you need them in an emergency (exercise good judgment with this if children are present).
7. Setting up surveillance cameras around your house or the addition of an alarm can also help secure your home from your stalker. Getting them caught red handed in the act or on surveillance video can be a powerful tool for the police to pursue this person with more zeal.
This is a big subject and these are just a few of the things you should do. More than anything keep and use your head!
I got an email yesterday from a reader we will call Jane. Jane said she tries to drive nice but some of the people who have driven with her said she is very aggressive. With that said Jane also has been the victim in a road rage incident. She didn’t cut him off /wink just kidding, she said she didn’t cut this guy off but in his mind she did so he got real crazy tailgating, honking, flashing his lights, flipping the bird and keep driving next to her pretending he was going to sideswipe her car. He then followed Jane to a red light and got out and came to the car kicking and punching it trying to get to her.
Jane said she was stuck in the middle of about a dozen cars at the light some in front, behind and on the side in other lanes. Not ONE person got out and helped her at all. Some were beeping their horns but no one got out to help. Jane said she was petrified and if the light hadn’t changed he might have done a lot more damage to her car and maybe even her.
Now as I said Monday if you drive nice generally you shouldn’t need to worry about having someone misunderstand your intentions, as what happened to Jane. Avoid engaging other drivers, even if they have done something to make you angry, just let it go it isn’t worth it I promise you. Safely try to put as much distance between you and the other driver as possible if you can do it safely. Also, avoid eye contact and never pull off the road to confront another driver; remember the videos Monday? Call the police and report the car’s license plate number, color and type. If you get a good look at the driver (hopefully only through the mirror, remember avoid eye contact if you can), then be sure to give a description to the police as well.
If you are being chased, let the 911 operator know you need help right away and give them your location. If an officer is nearby he can intervene or they can instruct you on how to proceed. Just be sure to lock your doors, stay in the car and get the police as much info as possible in order to get this idiot taken care of.
Listen I would love to say jump out and kick some behind but that would be reckless, avoidance is ALWAYS the best weapon. Keep your doors locked, get the police on the phone and stay in the vehicle and follow the instructions from the police.
Make it your new policy. No tailgating, for pete’s sake use turn signals I swear it isn’t too much work, don’t wait til the last minute to cut over in front of a turn lane or one ending. You know all the things that annoy you when done to you! Drive nice and you should never have to worry about some nut thinking you cut him off. Another benefit about driving nice, your odds of getting in an at fault accident drops as well, think about it. The life you save may be my own
Many women who read these tips are going to not like what you need to do to stay safe but before you say it I will. It isn’t fair that women can’t go to a party and not have to worry about becoming a victim it also isn’t fair there are attacks at all. But there are attacks everyday and this for now at least, is the world we live in.
I’ll give you a perfect example without identifying where this attack took place or who exactly was involved. This attack took place on a college campus where to young women went to a party at a frat house together.
During the night both girls wound up in the bathroom doing beer bongs with a guy. When he started making out with the one girl the friend left the bathroom. He then took the girl into the stall and raped her.
I didn’t give names or info so I could pick this night apart.
First let’s discuss what she and her friend did correct:
They went to the party together.
Now let’s discuss what they did wrong and why it was wrong:
They went into the bathroom, out of public eye, with a strange guy and started doing beer bongs. This was wrong for many reasons other than just going out of public sight with some guy you just met even with a friend. The other bad thing here is the beer bongs. They were designed for one thing and one thing only…getting trashed. Bad idea for a woman at a party with drunken, horny guys.
The other real bad thing here was that her friend left her alone with this guy. What is the purpose of taking a friend with you if she just leaves you? You need to be sure you make a vow with a friend you can trust with your life. The vow should be that you two come together and leave together…..period!
If you meet a guy, get his digits and then see him later. A party is NOT a good place to be boyfriend for the night hunting in my opinion. Meet guys all you want, flirt, talk, have fun but stay together.
I’ll tell you a secret I don’t think women know or believe. Guys know you bring a friend to keep you from doing something stupid and any good date raper will have planned for this by having a friend to try and divide and conquer you two or at least one of you.
Sick right? Well it is also true. I believe it is the testosterone or maybe men are just pigs, who knows?
Ok let’s recap and expand a little on some safety tips:
Never drink from any cup handed to you, get your own drink and if there is some reason the guy doesn’t want you to get it yourself even after you insist then it might be time to go.
Remember this is important, don’t drink or taste anybody else’s drink.
Never set your drink down unattended or eat food at frat parties (too easy to slip something in it)
Dispose of your drink if you think it tastes odd (if you just leave it, someone else may drink
it). Drugs used to spike drinks can be colorless and tasteless so you might not realize that anything has been added.
Always bring at least one friend with a consented vow that no matter what you two stay together at all times. Don’t let anyone separate you two for any reason.
Be aware of the behavior of your friends. Is their behavior out of character? Do they seem too “out of it” for what they’ve had?
Avoid excessive drinking, beer bongs are a total no no. It is much too much alcohol at one time and it is too risky.
Watch out for your friends. Are they binge drinking or taking drugs? Are they making safe decisions? Are they OK?
Avoid drugs of any kind at parties (you never what you are really taking).
If your friend needs to sober up or straighten out, check to see that they are OK. Are they alone? Who is with them? Are they safe?
Encourage people who are drunk to drink water or eat something. Keep an
eye on them, if you can.
Look it is common sense, if you want to stay then do it! You have all heard
the horror stories and know what type of behavior has the highest odds of
getting you into trouble and if you avoid this behavior you can go to a party
and have fun without getting attacked.
I also highly recommend you take a self defense course that gives you a
lengthy hands on approach to self defense. Having these skills could truly make
the difference between being a victim or not.
This story is one that just makes me sick and really makes me ask what is wrong with our kids today? When I was young, which wasn’t THAT long ago. The worst things we did was smoke and drink and fight and do stupid things like that but never anything close to what kids are capable of today.
It is to the point that you can’t even trust strange teenagers anymore than you can some adult men. You see what I mean by the end of this story and this story is not intended for younger readers even though it is based off of news reports this story is horrific.
A 35 year old Haitian Immigrant and her 12 year old son live in Dunbar Village in West Palm Beach Florida. They have lived there since they immigrated to the US with no money as this is low income projects type housing.
On July 7th, a teenager lured the woman outside out her door and then all 10 teenagers pushed their way in. For 3 HOURS they terrorized this poor woman and her son at gunpoint. They all repeatedly gang raped and sodomized this woman while in the other room her son was beaten.
The woman told reporters some off the boys had raped her two and some three times each. As said earlier this went on for 3 hours. To end the woman told reporters they forced her to perform oral sex on her son.
Then they doused the two with household cleaners and left the premises. Not one of her neighbors came to their aid nor did anyone call the cops. This was a loud and extremely violent and lengthy attack so how her neighbors could ignore this is beyond me.
The poor woman had to stumble her way to a hospital a mile away because she had already had her car stolen in a previous incident. In this day and age how can this happen in any community at all?
How can people stay silent and allow thugs to terrorize them and their neighbors? The time is come for good people to say enough is enough and take back our streets. We out number them and if we band together we can win but I am a dreamer.
So far through DNA and fingerprints they have arrested 2 teenagers so far, one 14 and the other 16. The other 8 are being sought but are also young as well. Sick little world.
Some things you can do to protect yourself if you live in a bad area:
Never open your doors and be lured outside – if they say there is something you need to see just say thank you and will we have my husband/boyfriend take a look at it in a few minutes or something but never open the door or go outside, even if it is a kid (see above story).
Get yourself a security door brace, they are inexpensive and can really help you to be safer. They sell for 15 and 19 dollars and are worth the small investment. See our door braces. Some of the door braces also work on sliding glass doors and should be used to help secure these types of doors as well.
Getting some type of defensive weapon such as pepper sprays or stun guns or even a taser x26c. You should have something to help give you a fighting chance.
We have inexpensive alarm systems that are great for apartments, they are easy to use and portable so you don’t have to ask for permission to use them. It also allows you to easily take them with you if you move.
I have noticed more and more reports of attacks and robberies associated with customers of various types of stores. Let me clarify a little, I’ll tell you about two such attacks and then offer some safety tips to help avoid becoming a victim.
A woman was in a 7-11 convenience store waiting in line to buy some cigarettes and junk food. When it became her turn to be waited on she placed her purse on the counter and fumbled around through her money looking for the smaller bills.
Now the whole time she is fiddling with her cash the guy behind her is taking note. He then follows her out of the store and to her home where he robs her at gun point and then fires a shot into her back tire.
In another attack, a woman bought a scratch off in a convenience store and then she left. A few moments she returned hugging the clerk because she just won $500.00. Unfortunately, 3 women in the store overheard her celebration with the clerk and followed her outside. They asked to see the ticket and grabbed it from her and then they took off running.
They were caught but the ticket was never recovered and thankfully the woman was not hurt in the attack but it should get you thinking.
How careful are you in public with flashing money or jewelry? Do you only use caution if someone behind you looks like a bad guy?
Sadly most people are not careful at all and they don’t exercise enough caution to avoid upping their odds of becoming a victim.
You should ALWAYS be careful about showing your wad of cash even if it is not that large or mostly small bills. Don’t bring that kind of bad attention to yourself! Get yourself in the habit of always being extra cautious whether anyone is near you or not. If you make it a habit it will help to lower your odds of attack.
I find it best, while in my vehicle, to grab some cash out of my wallet and place it into my front pocket. Generally you have a rough idea of what you are going to spend so have that bill handy so there is no need to open your purse or pull out a wallet.
This goes for both men and women; I have seen both making this mistake all the time and if you start to pay attention to people in stores you’ll see it too. I was in the store yesterday and a women had what looked like a decent wad ($200 plus) sitting in an open wallet on the very top of her also open large purse. You couldn’t miss the money and I thought to myself that she is a victim waiting to happen.
Don’t make this mistake, always use caution and this goes for pumping gas but that is for another blog!
This question has been asked a few times so I figured I would go ahead and answer it here. There is a bit of confusion on the part of consumers and that is obvious by this question.
Mace is a household brand name like Kleenex or Saran Wrap. That is where the confusion comes into play, when you buy another brand of tissue instead of buying Kleenex you still get tissues just different qualities and frills.
Mace is one of the most trusted names in the self defense spray industry and rightfully so as their products are top notch.
But to ram home the idea let me state clearly Mace makes pepper spray as well. BUT they also offer other types (original Mace CN,CS). So to say Mace is different than pepper spray is like saying Kleenex is different than tissues. So now we are clear Mace is a brand of defensive sprays not a specific type of defensive spray.
So you can buy pepper spray from Mace or PepperShot or one of the other major brands. But from Mace you can also get other CN or CS sprays as well as Michigan approved sprays. The also have combo sprays which have all 3 OC, CN and CS.
Ok, OC is what pepper spray contains. It is derived from various insanely hot peppers and is 100% natural and eco friendly; just to list a very few advantages of OC or as you know it pepper spray.
Now CN is a man made chemical as is CS, both are identified as possibly containing carcinogens which we all know can cause cancer. These were the original chemicals used to create the first tear gas, defensive sprays etc..
That is why people mistakenly think of Mace and pepper spray as being two different things. Mace has been permanently intertwined with CN and CS.
I hope all of this helps you to make a more informed decision as you investigate which defensive spray is best for you to use.
Be sure to check out the Mace brand pepper sprays, they are top quality and preferred by law enforcement and the security community due to the trust they have garnered over the years for these products.
Stay safe and be sure to aim for their face then run like hell!
